  • Child Health Surveillance Clinic
  • Child Immunisation Clinic
  • Diabetes Clinic
  • Minor Operations, soft tissue injections and Cryotherapy (warts and other benign lesions)
  • Asthma Clinic

Please ask at the reception desk for the date/time of any clinic you are interest in. Please note that maternity medical services are provided by the practice in partnership with the district midwives.

Contraceptive services are provided and tailored to an individual's requirement during normal surgery hours. Patients wishing the insertion of an IUCD will require referral to a family planning clinic. Post-coital contraception is available up to five days after unprotected sex but please arrange an early appointment. (The post-coital pill may be used up to 72 hours after unprotected sex and a coil may be inserted by the family planning clinic up to 5 days after unprotected sex). This is NOT a method of contraception and in some cases referral to Claremont Terrace may be advised.

immuniseFlu Vaccination
In accordance with the Department of Health guidelines, we recommend an influenza vaccination for patients with diabetes, chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, have had a splenectomy and residents of nursing and rest homes. All over 65's are also advised to receive the 'flu' vaccine. The vaccination is available in October, please contact the reception desk for further details. These groups of patients should also receive one single dose of pneumococcal vaccine.

Patients aged 75 or over
You are invited to an annual consultation with the practice nurse. Flu vaccination is now recommended for everyone in this group

Non-NHS Examinations
If you need a special examination e.g. for fitness to undertake sports, pre-employment, HGV or elderly drivers, this will be undertaken during a special appointment, and a fee will be charged (according to the BMA recommended scale of charges which changes from time to time) - please let the receptionist know that you are coming for this reason as extra time will be allotted to you for this.

Cervical Smear Tests
Cancer of the cervix can be prevented and all female patients between the ages of 20 and 60 are advised to have regular smear tests. These are important because they can detect early signs or precursors of the disease which is easily treated. We operate a "call and recall" system to remind you about the tests.

Breast Examination
It is a good idea for all women to examine their breasts regularly for lumps. If you are not sure how to do this, your doctor or practice nurse will be happy to show you. Most lumps are benign but it is important to exclude anything serious. Routine mammography is offered to all over 50 yr old women every 3 years.

Minor Surgery and Skin Clinic
Certain conditions and skin lesions are treated in the practice by Dr Goldthorp and Dr Morrison using a variety of surgical techniques and by utilising liquid nitrogen. We normally wish to discuss these problems with the patient in a normal surgery appointment first so please make an appointment in the usual way.

Holiday Immunisations
If you are traveling abroad, especially outside Europe, you may need extra vaccinations. Please contact the surgery in good time, as some vaccinations need to be given three months before traveling. You may be required to collect a prescription prior to attending for the vaccination with the practice nurse. Antimalarials (with the exception of mefloloquine which requires a private prescription) are now bought over the counter.

Well Baby/Child Health Clinic
The clinic aims to ensure the well being of children up to the age of five. A planned programme of health and other developmental checks is undertaken at the surgery.
